Jenga : 2015-2016
GISS Service dayAfter the GISS conference held at IST delegates from countries around the world went out on a service trip to help the community in dar. We took students to our service learning site to get involved with building the house.
We all had to work collaboratively to complete the work we set out to do. By carrying many buckets of stones, soil and concrete, we were able to complete one floor of one of the rooms. I thought everybody worked really well together, especially as we had really only recently met. |
Current projectsWe are currently building a house for Mr. Patric's ayah. She needed a new house however had little money to buy or build on. Jenga stepped in to raise money and help build her new house. The house now has 6 rooms with a roof and a few rooms have floors.
Every Tuesday we meet to discuss, plan and make household products that can then be sold in order to raise money for our project and upcoming projects. |
What skills I am learningLeadership:
By being a group leader, I am partially responsible for all the other members of the group. Creative: Creativity is an important factor of Jenga. Every week we are coming up with new ideas that could serve as a basis for a product that can be sold. |
Jenga : 2016-2017
September 2016:
After the new school year has begun and a new year of Jenga I and the other leaders have decided we need to start the year with a new project. Although last years project went well the pace of progress was very slow as the house was to far away to be able to work on it weekly. Instead we resprted to making small 'buying' prodect which could be sold at an event. Last week we brainstromed new ideas for the year, these are the suggestions that came up:

- Building playground equipment for a local school
- Building playground equipment for IST elementary school
- Building a dolls house
- Finding another local house/building to build
- Helping the community (in school or outside)
- Working collaboratively
- Using a creative mindset
- Develop school community
October:
The leaders decided that the project that could fit into all the above criteria was to do an in-school project. After contact with the Elementary School Principal of IST, we found out that what the Elementary campus needed was a large set of chess pieces for a new Chess board that had recently painted in the playground.
